About the Academyアカデミーについて
The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals where a group of producers, vocalists, DJs, instrumentalists and all-round musical mavericks from around the world come together for two weeks worth of recording sessions, lectures by musical luminaries and performances. If you can imagine a place that’s equal parts science lab, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and Kraftwerk’s home studio, you’re halfway there. In 2014, we’ll be setting up shop in Tokyo.
Dates:
Oct 12 - Nov 14
2014年10月12日 – 11月14日

Frequently Asked Questionsよくある質問

Question:

When is the application due?

Answer:

You can mail your completed application and demo music to us anytime between January 15 and March 18 this year. Just make sure it was postmarked by March 18.

Question:

Where do I send the application?

Answer:

Unless you have made special prior shipping arrangements with your local country’s Red Bull office, all applications should be sent to the Red Bull Music Academy HQ. Here’s the address:

Red Bull Music Academy
Applications Tokyo 2014
Boisseréestr. 9-11
50674 Cologne
Germany

Question:

How will I know my application arrived safely?

Answer:

We will confirm the arrival of all applications to the Red Bull Music Academy HQ in Germany. Due to the sheer number of applications we receive, we can't promise when we will get back to you. Please rest assured, though, that we will.

Question:

Can I send my application digitally?

Answer:

No. Let’s get physical.

Question:

Can I send my music as mp3 files?

Answer:

No. Please send an audio CD (meaning: playable in a 1995 Panasonic deck) with track list.

Question:

How many songs can I include in the demo CD?

Answer:

As many as you want. Although, less is more sometimes.

Question:

Does the application form need to be filled out manually / handwritten?

Answer:

We strongly prefer handwritten applications, even if your writing is damn sloppy, as it gives us a better sense of who you are. With that said, we will accept typed and printed applications, but you will still have to draw all the pictures by hand.

Question:

Do I need to fill out every single question?

Answer:

Yes. If some of the questions don’t apply to you (i.e. you don’t have a website or manager), then just write a poem or something.

Question:

What kind of images do I need to include with the application?

Answer:

We require two photos. One needs to be a ‘passport-style’ photo. This doesn’t necessarily mean official passport photo, but we do need one with just your head looking straight at the camera, and in a passport-photo size. The other photo can be any style you want. As long as it’s clearly you.

Question:

Do you have less of a chance the later you submit your application?

Answer:

No. As long as your application is postmarked by March 18, you have exactly the same chance as anyone.

Question:

Can bands apply?

Answer:

In order to create an open, diverse musical environment for participants, we don’t invite bands to the Academy. But, with that said, no one will forbid you and your entire crew to apply individually.

Question:

How old do I have to be?

Answer:

As long as you are at least 20 years old by October 12, 2014, you can apply. In order to comply with drinking laws in Japan, we will not accept applications from anyone under the required age.

Question:

What happens if I’m selected?

Answer:

All applicants will be notified by June 17, 2014 whether their application was successful or not. If you are selected to attend the Academy, all workshops and sessions are free (and open only to selected participants – although we usually hold one or two public lectures). The Academy also covers flights, accommodation costs, and provides ground transportation and meals.

At the Academy, we’ll ask you to play a show as part of our festival of events in the city. There will also be audio and video recordings taking place at the Academy. Red Bull generally has no interest in using any of the music or video created at the Academy for anything other than Academy matters, and doesn't obtain copyrights for any of your work. Creativity is the only currency here. Music is what we live and stand for.

Question:

Still have questions?

Still got questions? Each week, a former Academy participant will be on hand to give answers to what you’ve always wanted to ask.
